Art in Bloom Returns, New Jurors Announced
HOLLAND, MI – Combining local artists, beautiful subjects and people’s votes was a winning formula in 2011 for the Holland Area Arts Council and Tulip Time Festival. They are joining forces again in 2012 for the second annual Art in Bloom Poster Competition.
The Art in Bloom Poster Competition is an open process where artists can submit their vision for the Tulip Time Festival poster. The Holland Area Arts Council will be accepting submissions for the competition until November 19, 2011.
“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with the art community again,” said Gwen Auwerda, Executive Director, Tulip Time Festival. “This competition gave us Drama Queen by Beth Charles in 2011. We can’t wait to see what’s next. Partnering with the Holland Area Arts Council illustrates what Tulip Time is all about – building community.”
A panel of three West Michigan art experts will judge all entries. They are, Steve Frykolm, the Creative Director of Herman Miller, Stephanie Milanowski, Assistant Professor of Art and Design at Hope College and Henry Matthews, Director of Galleries and Collections at Grand Valley State University. “We think this esteemed group of artists and art educators will be able to select another winning poster again this year from the pool of great art talent in the area,” explained Lorma Freestone, Executive Director of the Holland Area Arts Council. These jurors will select 20 pieces of art from which the 2012 Tulip Time Festival poster will be selected. The winner of the 2012 Tulip Time Festival Poster will be announced at a special unveiling in February.
Locals and visitors are encouraged to tour downtown Holland, May 1 – 10, 2012, to view the other 19 finalist designs in shop windows and vote on their favorite. The winners of the “Viewer’s Choice Award” will be announced on May 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holland Area Arts Council. First, second and third place will receive cash awards.
