GOVERNOR GRANHOLM VISITS TULIP TIME
HOLLAND, MI – Monday, April 16, 2007 – The Tulip Time Festival (www.tuliptime.com) is proud to welcome Governor Jennifer Granholm to the annual Governors Luncheon. The Luncheon will be held Wednesday, May 9th, 11:00 AM at the Dow Center on the campus of Hope College. This new location for the luncheon is located on the southeast corner of Columbia Avenue and 13th Street. Tickets are available to the public for $35 per person or $320 per table. Tickets can be purchased through the Tulip Time Office and are based on a first come first serve basis.
“We are pleased Governor Granholm has accepted our invitation to visit Tulip Time and Holland, Michigan,” says Tamra Bouman Executive Director of Tulip Time. “The luncheon and parade have a long standing history of Michigan’s Governor being in attendance and we are delighted Governor Granholm will be joining our community in carrying on this tradition.”
Immediately following the Luncheon, Governor Granholm will walk in the first parade of the week, the Volksparade. Dressed in a traditional Dutch costume, the “Achterhoek”, the Governor will meet and greet residence as she walks the parade route. Festivities for Wednesday’s Volksparade begin at 10:30am at 8th St. and Central Ave, with the “White Glove Inspection” by Mayor Al McGeehan and Holland’s City Council Members. At 1pm the tradition continues with Klompen Dancing and “Dutch Cleanliness” as hundreds of Dutch-costumed townspeople line the street (8th St. between Columbia Ave. and Kollen Park) with brooms and pails in hand and proceed to “scrub the streets” clean prior to the Governor’s processional.
