Tulip Time Festival Announces 2009 Poster Artist
HOLLAND, MI – February 11, 2009 –Tulip Time Festival (www.tuliptime.com) is pleased to announce the 2009 poster artist Maxine MacLeod and her original watercolor painting, ‘America’s Holland.’ The Tulip Time Festival Poster Committee commissioned MacLeod to paint a commemorative piece embracing the America’s Holland tulip. This variety was developed over the last 5 years by K.P. De Geus from North Holland, Netherlands. The city of Holland, Michigan has planted thousands of America’s Holland for the Tulip Time Festival’s 80th Anniversary celebration to be unveiled this spring.
Maxine MacLeod has been a resident of Michigan most of her life. MacLeod earned an undergraduate degree from Wheaton College in Illinois and a Master of Arts degree from Western Michigan University. She has exhibited in galleries in Michigan, Illinois, and Florida. MacLeod was Artist-in-Residence for the March Festival of Arts in Holland, MI and at the Franciscan Life Center in Lowell, MI. Although primarily a watercolorist, MacLeod occasionally mixes in acrylics to give a sharper tone to her work. The landscapes and flowers of the Midwest are her favorite subjects.
This year’s poster will be available on February 20, 2009 through the Tulip Time Festival office, online at www.tuliptime.com and at various art galleries and frame shops. Poster sizes include 16”x20,” 8”x10” and limited signed and numbered giclées 18”x24” and 24”x28.” Note cards in packs of 10 featuring the poster will also be available.
Community Open House Friday, February 20 from 11am-2pm the community is invited to meet the artist, view the original painting and purchase posters at the Tulip Time Festival office 238 S. River Ave, Holland, MI. Light refreshments will be served.
